Pain relief after surgery
Effective pain management is essential in the perioperative period. Our aim is to make you as comfortable as possible so that you are able to undertake functional tasks such as deep breathing, coughing and mobilising: all of which aid your recovery.
The way in which pain is managed depends upon a number of factors including what type of surgery you are having and what your prexisting medical conditions may be.
The Acute Pain Service and your Anaesthetist will discuss your pain management options with you during your hospital stay. Surgical pain may be managed in a variety of ways including an epidural or patient controlled analgesia.
